The undergraduate and graduate students of textile design at Philadelphia University, Moore College of Art and Design and Drexel University were invited to participate in this year's Northwest's Student Design Competition.

Design was the name of the game. Designs could be smooth edged, complex, transparent, basically without restriction; it's artistry that happens to go on the floor. The palette chosen was up to the individual student based upon their understanding of how fashion forward schemes relate to flooring in the Hospitality Industry.

Three winners were selected. The overall grand winner of the competition was Liz Weissert. Liz attends Philadelphia University and has a strong concentration in print and pattern development for textiles. Along with a cash prize, a trip to the Hospitality Design Expo in Las Vegas was also awarded to Liz and a friend.

“I made a conscious decision before beginning my design process to ensure all of the influences stemmed from
nature.  I thought it would be interesting to have natural influence breathe life into a casino, a place that doesn’t
typically evoke thoughts of the outdoors.  The colors were derived from peacock feathers and the designs were
inspired by water and rock formations.”
